Frequently asked questions
What does DiskSage analyze?
DiskSage analyzes only the drive or folder you select in the macOS system picker. Overview measures accessible data in that location; Recommended Cleanup shows only the result types and sensitivity you choose.
Why is the measured total different from macOS Storage?
Even with Full Disk Access, App Sandbox, TCC, SIP, file permissions, and macOS Data Vaults may leave some folders inaccessible. DiskSage safely skips those areas, so its total may be lower than the amount shown by macOS.
What do Safe, Review, and Keep mean?
Safe means an item appears low-risk and re-creatable; Review means you should verify it; Keep means AI recommends leaving it in place. These are conservative recommendations based on metadata, not guarantees.
What can I include in Recommended Cleanup?
You can choose Caches and temporary data, Developer files and build data, Applications, Archives and installers, Videos, images, documents, and audio, Other large files. Large personal files are never automatically treated as safe to remove; review them individually.
Does DiskSage delete files automatically?
No. You choose each item and confirm the action. DiskSage moves the selected item to the macOS Trash so it can be restored until the Trash is emptied.
Why can a scan take a long time?
Large locations can contain millions of files. Leave DiskSage open while it works, or stop the scan and choose a smaller folder. The item counter shows real file-system entries inspected; the progress indicator is activity-based because macOS does not provide the total number in advance.
What data is sent to AI?
Only after your consent: item name, category, size, modification date, and a temporary technical ID. AI Assistant may also send your message, recent conversation context, saved exclusions, and limited candidate metadata. File contents and full paths are never sent.
What should I do if AI assessment fails?
Confirm that your Mac is online, that AI processing remains enabled in DiskSage Settings, and try again. Daily service limits may apply. Your local scan and manual cleanup remain available without AI.
How do I restore or manage Premium?
Open DiskSage Settings and choose Restore Purchases while signed in to the Apple Account used for the purchase. You can manage or cancel the auto-renewable subscription in your Apple Account subscription settings. Billing and refunds are handled by Apple.
How do I change the app language?
Open DiskSage Settings and choose English or Czech. DiskSage requires macOS 14 or later.
